CALMEADOW ORGANIZATION

CALMEADOW is a registered Canadian Charity (Revenue Canada Registration # 0945709-59) based in Toronto, Canada, with an operations base in San José, Costa Rica. Our organization depends on grants received and fees earned from a small variety of sources. With the shift of focus from direct programming to investment in international microfinance institutions, our costs have been reduced substantially and we are fully sustainable based on these funding sources.

The governance of CALMEADOW is carried out through its board of directors by the executive director.

Board Members

Alejandro “Alex” Silva, President of the Board, Founding Partner of Omtrix.

Elisabeth Rhyne, Senior VP, Policy and Research & Development, ACCIÓN International.
Ms. Rhyne directs ACCION's research efforts to develop new financial products for the poor and leads ACCION’s microfinance industry development activities. She oversees ACCION’s publications and educational activities. Ms. Rhyne previously worked as the director of the Office of Microenterprise Development with USAID and as an independent consultant in Mozambique.

Jose Siman, Independent Consultant.
Mr. Siman serves as a director or advisor for a number of social and commercial organizations, current roles include: Director of the National Board, INCAE Business School, El Salvador, Board member of the Human Development Report initiative of the UNDP (2001 – 2008), Secretary of the Enterprise Council on Sustainable Development, and a consultant to various international organizations, private enterprises, and governments. Mr. Siman has also been a guest scholar at numerous institutions of higher learning and policy institutes such as the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C., the Institute of Latin American Studies at La Trobe University in Australia, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Mr. Siman was also a philosophy professor at the University of Central America, has served as a board member for various private development enterprises, and received the Order of Civil Merit from the king of Spain in 2005.

Damian von Stauffenberg, Founder and Principal, MicroRate.
Mr. von Stauffenberg founded MicroRate, the first rating agency for microfinance institutions. MicroRate was designed to provide transparency to the microfinance industry and thereby attract commercial funding sources to microfinance. Mr. von Stauffenberg has had a long and successful career with the World Bank and its private sector affiliate, the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
